Forming Pinnacle Therapy Solutions, LLC
Hi. I am Dr. Joshua Dahlke, PT, DPT. I have been practicing physical therapy (PT) since 2007, graduating from Concordia University Wisconsin's Doctor of Physical Therapy Program. Throughout my time as a PT, I have seen the good, the bad and the ugly of our healthcare system. I have had many wonderful experiences as a staff physical therapist and a few that were not so wonderful. All of these experiences have led me to the conclusion that there MUST be a better way of doing things. Healthcare costs are rising rapidly. Quality of care is diminishing just as fast as costs increase. We are losing the personal connections that make healthcare an environment for getting better. My desire to partner with people in their recovery is what has driven me to start Pinnacle Therapy Solutions, LLC. I have a unique skill set acquired over my years of practice. My approach is a fresh new way in PT of forming a lasting bond with people and guiding them toward their goals. I would like to assist you in getting better...faster!
My career has traversed the many landscapes of the PT world, from sub-acute (nursing home) care to home health care, from inpatient (hospital) care to outpatient orthopedic physical therapy. My passion has always been working with people having musculoskeletal issues (joint, muscle, tendon or other soft tissue injuries). The majority of my career has been spent in the outpatient setting, helping people with these problems. My pursuit of continuing education has led me to the conclusion, based on published medical research as well as practical clinical experience, that manual physical therapy is the best way for a PT to make a dramatic impact on people's lives. With this revelation I have taken MANY courses geared toward a hands on approach.
Pursuing coursework through the University of St. Augustine and the Spinal Manipulation Institute, I have received a great deal of training in spinal manipulation and mobilization, as well as peripheral joint (joints of the extremities) manipulation and mobilization. In addition I have also taken course work on myofascial (muscle and connective tissue) mobilization. These skills have allowed me to help people with both acute and chronic neck, jaw, back, shoulder, elbow, wrist, hand, knee, hip, ankle and foot pain.
In my studies I learned about a system of treatment called ASTYM. This is a revolutionary approach to mobilization of soft tissue, using specialized instruments. The intent is to bring about a natural healing process in the body, getting your body to restore and repair tissues (muscles, tendons, ligaments, scar tissue) damaged or changed by injury. Having been certified in this treatment, I must say it has changed the way that I perform physical therapy. Incorporating ASTYM into a treatment plan has helped people where maybe others (or myself in the past) had previously failed.
Completing my approach, I discovered the techniques of dry needling. This form of treatment has allowed me to effectively treat conditions that have traditionally been stubborn using "typical" physical therapy. Use of thin needles inserted into muscular structures, releasing tight muscle and bringing about a healing effect has assisted in treating people who have failed in other conservative treatment methods before. Obtaining certification in dry needling is another way I felt I could offer people alternatives to other conservative means that have not worked for them in the past.
Exercise is also important. The body is meant to move, and to move in certain ways. Having a large amount of personal experience in weight training, sports, coaching and a professional background in exercise as a physical therapist I can attest to the need for proper fitness, flexibility and function. Providing guidance on appropriate forms of exercise and movement is a part of my approach as well. I want to provide everyone I work with the opportunity to access a professional's opinion regarding their fitness needs in relation to an injury, or with respect to their daily lives.
Pinnacle Therapy Solutions, LLC, has become an outlet for me to treat people with the care that I would want to have. To be in control of my own care is important to me. To be comfortable discussing with my healthcare providers a treatment plan that is suited to my individual needs is important to me. To be able to have an upfront understanding of expected time frame and cost of care is important to me. I feel it is probably important to you too. This is my motivation, to partner with you to succeed in your goals.
I have always loved sports. Born in Green Bay, I am a life-long Packer fan. Growing up in the Appleton area I enjoyed playing sports of all kinds. Participating in youth baseball, football and basketball were my favorite past times. At Fox Valley Lutheran, I participated in baseball, track and field, basketball and football. My first love in sport has always been football. As a senior I was team captain for the Foxes, and a first team all-conference linebacker. I was also introduced to playing men's fast pitch softball in high school. My father pitched on many competitive teams and tournament teams for 40 years of his life. I grew up around the ball diamond and have fond memories of watching his games. My two younger brothers and I were fortunate enough to play along side our dad for a handful of years, participating in a game we all enjoy.
As an adult I have continued to find joy in competition as a player and a coach. Having 2 children I hope to pass along my fondness for sports. I love to teach children the joy of games and physical activity, and the camaraderie of playing on a team. I have coached both of my younger brothers in baseball, basketball or high school football. With my children I have entered a new phase as a father coach, instructing my son and daughter and their teams in t-ball and youth basketball.
My wife and I enjoy spending time with our children and family. You may find us at a local high school prep sports game, the Timber Rattlers game, or at one of the many parks in the area. We love Appleton, as it is a wonderful place to live, raise a family and call home!
